Here's what we were working with - overgrown, tired plants that had run their course, dried-out mulch, and beds that just weren't doing the house any favors. The bones of the property were great, but the landscaping wasn't keeping up. That's a pretty common situation, and it's exactly the kind of thing we love to fix.

We started by pulling out the old plants entirely and clearing the beds down to bare soil. No shortcuts. Once everything was out, we had a clean slate to work with - which is honestly the best starting point for any custom landscape design. From there, we selected new azaleas and Soft Touch hollies to give the beds structure, color, and long-term low-maintenance appeal. Both are solid choices for the front of a home - they're hardy, they look clean, and they complement each other well.

Before laying a single thing down, we applied Snapshot pre-emergent to help keep weeds from taking hold. That step alone saves a lot of headaches down the road. Then we edged the beds to create sharp, defined lines along the walkway and lawn - one of those details that makes a finished job look really polished. Fresh dark mulch went down last, pulling everything together.

The difference between the start and finish is pretty dramatic. What was once a cluttered, worn-out bed is now clean, intentional, and well-planted. The new shrubs are spaced thoughtfully and have plenty of room to fill in naturally over time. It's the kind of result that doesn't just look good today - it holds up.

This is what a proper landscape bed refresh looks like when every step is done right. Removing the old, selecting the right plants, treating for weeds, edging clean lines, and finishing with quality mulch. Each piece matters, and skipping any one of them shows.
