Slopes are stubborn. Seed washes down with the first rain, bare patches hang around for months, and the whole thing becomes a cycle that never really ends. That was exactly what was happening with this front-yard hill in Summerfield, NC. The slope had been fighting grass growth for a while, and something more than just throwing seed at it was needed.

We started by bringing in fresh topsoil and regrading the hill. That part matters more than most people realize. If the base isn't right - if the grade is uneven or the soil is compacted and thin - seed doesn't stand a chance. Getting the ground properly shaped and amended first sets everything else up to actually work.

After seeding, we installed a Curlex erosion-control blanket across the slope. Curlex is made from wood excelsior fibers, and it does two things well - it holds the seed in place so it doesn't wash downhill, and it keeps the soil from moving during rain events while the grass is still getting its roots established. It's a step a lot of people skip, and it's usually why their slopes fail to fill in.

The blanket you can see tucked along the bed edge near the foundation is part of that same system, keeping the boundary zones tidy and protected too. Once the grass comes in, the Curlex breaks down naturally. No removal needed. It's a clean, low-hassle solution for a problem that tends to frustrate homeowners for years.

If you've got a bare slope or a spot where seed keeps disappearing after every rain, that's a sign the fix needs to go a little deeper than just reseeding. Send us a photo of the area and tell us what's been going on - we're happy to take a look and talk through what would actually work for your situation.
